theatre & performing arts photography

Photographing theatre and performing arts poses its own unique challenges. In order to try and capture the atmosphere, one has to rely as much as possible on the lighting designer, so the use of flash is generally avoided if at all possible. Sometimes there isn't much light to use, which requires longer than normal shutter speeds, which can introduce camera shake, so a steady hand is needed.

Done properly, you can capture those dramatic moments forever.

I am also commissioned to take pre-production publicity photographs for drama societies. This particular photograph was taken for Rackheath Players production 'The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree' making its UK premiere in February 2008. This was shot on location in North Norfolk.
