motorsport & track day photography
Successful motorsport photography requires some knowledge of the sport in order to predict what may happen next. During the 2007 season I followed the Monoposto Racing Club around the UK visiting circuits as varies as the natural amphitheatre of Brands Hatch, to the modern American style oval at Rockingham, as well as airfield circuits such as Snetterton and Silverstone, the home of the British F1 Grand Prix. The Monoposto club used the photographs on their own website and also submitted pictures to the media departments of the various circuits involved. In addition, the drivers could submit photos along with a local news story to their regional papers.
Apart from the Monoposto championship, I also captured the decisive turning point in the 2007 Formula Jedi championship, where championship leader Brett Parris lost his rear wheel in a shower of sparks, and covered the Lowestoft Invaders Motorcycle Enduro race at Tunstall, this shows the variety of events I attend each year.
For the 2008 season I have been once more covering the Monoposto Racing Club, but also the Toyota Sprint Series, Fighting Torque, the Britcar 24hr race as well as a number of track days for Javelin Trackdays.

I shoot motorsport using a Sigma 100-300 f4 EX lens which is ideal for motorsport, with an optional x1.4 extender which is sufficient for the majority of UK circuits. For paddock shots and some racing shots where a wider angle lens is needed, I use a Canon 24-105 IS L lens or even a Sigma ultra-wide angle lens
Camera water-proofing gear, a high-vis waistcoat and a Manfrotto monopod are also used.
