Toyota Sprint Series 2011- Round 5 – Croft Circuit

This was really the first time that TSS has visited a proper circuit – the visits to Rockingham utilise the outer oval with a coned course, and Teesside is a grown up kart circuit with a hilly bit. Croft has a well-publicised noise problem, caused by a messy divorce, and all entrants were reminded to [...]

MSVR Brands Hatch GP circuit

Noise complaints from the housing estates which surround the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, means the Grand Prix layout is only used a small number of times for race weekends.   These tend to be reserved for the top level events such as the British Touring Cars and the Historic Festival, meaning the shorter Indy [...]

BTCC Snetterton

The British Touring Car Championship is the most popular of the national motorsport series by some margin, and it was Snetterton’s turn to host the event, this time using the new 300 configuration for the first time.    Some 35,000 spectators came to watch the action resume after a 7 week break. Defending champion Jason [...]

MSV Trackday Trophy Brands Hatch

My previous post suggested the whole weekend was damp.   Some of it was actually quite nice.    The MSV Trackday Trophy got the best of the weather, especially for morning qualifying, as this shot from the top of Hailwood Hill shows.

F3 Cup: Brands Hatch Indy

The weekend of the 16th and 17th July was memorable for being unseasonally wet.    Friday testing was the exact opposite, a lovely summers day. Shooting racing cars in the rain poses particular problems.   Generally light levels are significantly lower, spray from wheels means that its hard to see cars following the lead car [...]

Oulton Park: Blast in the Park

Oulton Park was bathed in sunlight for the Saturday ‘Blast in the Park’ meeting. I was there covering Monoposto Racing Club, and also Production BMW and Project 8 Racing for a fellow photographer who was unable to make the meeting. The photograph above shows Adrian Wright, debuting the GEM AW3, taking the lead in the [...]

2011 Lotus Festival – Snetterton

The 2010 Lotus Festival was a particular highlight, as Classic Team Lotus had managed to get an example of every F1 car that Team Lotus had built, and the Tony Fernandes flavoured  Lotus Racing F1 were present.  There was a capacity crowd that year. 2011 was never going to live up to that billing, but [...]

VW Fun Cup, Snetterton

The VW Fun Cup visited Snetterton once again.     For the uninitated, the Fun Cup uses space-frame mid engined cars clothed in a fibreglass shell resembling the old VW Beetle.    Races are long distance endurance affairs with several drivers and compulsary pitstops.

British GT & F3′s at Snetterton

The British GT and F3 meeting was the first major event that the new Snetterton 300 layout had hosted.    The weather was changeable on the Saturday with several sharp showers during qualifying which made tyre choice a bit of gamble.

Monoposto – Cadwell Park, rounds 6 and 7

Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire is one of the most picturesque circuits in the UK – probably because unlike many of the others it is not descended from a disused airfield.    There are plenty of angles, and is one of the best circuits for photography from the public areas.

Monoposto – Brands Hatch, rounds 4 and 5

Some people grumble about the Indy circuit of Brands Hatch, but I am not sure why.     Noise complaints limit the use of the full circuit, but the smaller circuit offers close and exciting racing, and spectators can see a lot of the circuit from any given area.     A short lap time [...]

Monoposto – Donington, rounds 2 and 3

Donington Park has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons.   Simon Gillet’s ludicrous attempt to bring F1 to Donington nearly saw the circuit close for good, but thankfully Kevin Wheatcroft has managed to get the circuit repaired and to get racing underway again.
